1.Avoid Contradictory food (Viruddha Ahara)

Any diet, which aggravates doshas but does not eliminate them from the body is called contradictory food. If the contradictory food is consumed repeatedly, it takes a heavy toll on the digestive fire producing ama or toxins. This naturally can lead to any disease in the body.

2.Avoid Stress

Stress and strong emotions are a major cause of all diseases now a days. Stress, unexpressed anger, and emotional disorders, including depression and anxiety, all contribute to disease. From psoriasis to cancer and depression to diabetes, stress is becoming more and more a dangerous causative factor. So be cool, get proper sleep, meditate and go for shirodhara and nasyam to avoid stress.

3.Avoid fast Food and Junk Food

Now a days obesity and skin diseases are the major disorders resulting from the habit of eating fast food.

Eating too much junk food and fast food, eating too much fatty food and chocolates, drinking too much of alcoholic beverages and smoking must be avoided.

4.Take Sattvik Diet (Blissful or Holistic Food)

Sattvic diet consists of fresh fruits like pomegranate, apple, banana, oranges, grapes; grains like  rice and wheat in small quantity and dairy like milk and ghee. It keeps the body clean and agile and mind calm and quiet. Fresh buttermilk, fresh green vegetables like spinach, green beans and moong dal are good examples of sattvic food. Although mild sweet taste is sattvic, too much sweet taste as in chocolates and sweets etc, increases Tamas quality. 6.Avoid Smoking, Chewing Tobacco and Drinking Alcohol

These are the major causative factors for cancer and other disease. Head, neck and lung cancer rates increase day by day due to such bad habits. Instead of these one must take boiled vegetable soup, takra (buttermilk), boiled milk and lime water which are healthy drinks to consume.

All above things can increase ama which is the most responsible factor for all diseases according to Ayurveda.

According to Ayurveda when the digestive fire is inadequate to digest and assimilate the food properly, the food gets converted to an undigested waste which is poisonous in nature. This undigested waste is the ama. There is no equivalent of the concept of ama in modern sciences.

Just for convenience of understanding we can assume that when the digestive fire is not working properly the carbohydrates and fatty acids are being converted to lactic acid instead of glucose and glycerol and mono fatty acids. Similarly the proteins get converted to uric acid instead of normal amino acid. This correlation is just to make the concept of ama a bit more understanding otherwise there is no such similarity between these two concepts.

So ama is the causative factor for all types of disorders as per Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda ama is responsible for most of the diseases we suffer from. This ama is of sedentary nature so it tries to sediment wherever it gets a chance. This sedimentation of the waste in the body will definitely occlude the micro nutritive channels of the body which will further weaken the body systems.
